What is Vrbo
Vrbo claims to be a an American vacation rental online marketplace.
It is originally known as Vacation Rentals by Owner or VRBO. It was acquired by HomeAway in 2006. Expedia Group acquired HomeAway in December 2015. In March 2019, it was rebranded including a new logo, capitalization, and pronunciation
Vrbo is a vacation rental company where rental owners or managers can post their property listings and travellers can book their vacation properties. This company operates internationally- in 190 countries, and its origins are North American. To be exact, its headquarters are in Austin, Texas.
When VRBO first was created in 1995, it stood for Vacation Rentals By Owner. This name was chosen because they were one of the first online platforms to allow property owners to rent directly without the involvement of larger property management companies. Now it is not an acronym anymore since it has its own pronunciation and it is not written in capital letters. Instead, Vrbo is simply a name in its own right, with no hidden meaning.
I made a booking over 2 months ago for an important event in Durham, UK. Today, I received an email saying that my reservation had been cancelled. I have spent most of the afternoon trying to find alternative accommodation for 2 people for 2 nights. I wish i had never bothered with Vrbo and shall not use them again.Suzanne
The property smells of a urinal. Ants and mosquitoes are crawling all over. The fan cannot be turned on unless someone gets up on a chair to pull a broken switch. Grimy refrigerator. The roof has marks of water damage. I paid $200 per night for this. I was on phone with vrbo customer service team for six hours without any resolution! They think this smell is a “not urgent issue”. VRBO has a consumer rating of 1.25 stars from 1,643 reviews indicating that most customers are generally dissatisfied with their purchases. Consumers complaining about VRBO most frequently mention customer service, credit card and property owner problems.VRBO ranks 98th among Vacation Rentals sites.
Just like Viagogo that we have reviewed, Customers seem to be disappointed about this site and have called it for what it is a SCAM!
Customers have complained that some of the properties were more or less a dumpsite and not worth the money, so many customers have vowed to not use the rental service again.
From the foregoing, it is clear that Vrbo is a scam just like Worldtoexpress which we reviewed earlier, Customers should be wary of such sites as their aims are to rip off unsuspecting Customers.
