Paraquat Poisoning Case 2022: Harbinger Of Parkinsons Disease and Kidney Failure.

Have you been diagnosed with Parkinsons Disease and Kidney Failure ? Have you been exposed to Paraquat Herbicide?  then you may be entitled to a Settlement Benefit.

What is The Paraquat Poisoning Case Lawsuit Settlement

Paraquat is a toxic chemical that is widely used as an herbicide (plant killer), primarily for weed and grass control. In the United States, paraquat is available primarily as a liquid in various strengths. The US Environmental Protection Agency classifies paraquat as “restricted use.” This means that it can be used only by people who are licensed applicators. Paraquat poisoning is also possible after skin exposure. Poisoning is more likely to occur if the skin exposure lasts for a long time, involves a concentrated version of paraquat, or occurs through skin that is not intact (skin that has sores, cuts, or a severe rash).

A product of Swiss-based agrochemical company Syngenta, the Paraquat is the active ingredient marketed under the brand names Gramoxone, Firestorm, Parazone, and Helmquat and is among the most popular weed-killing agents in the world. It has been used primarily by farmers to eradicate weeds in commercial crops.

However, due to concerns about potentially dangerous health effects on those using the product and those who experience inadvertent environmental exposure to it, over 30 countries, as well as the European Union, have banned its use.

Paraquat is typically used in farm and agricultural production settings on more than 100 different crop varieties, with many grown for the purpose of human consumption, including coffee beans, orange, orchard fruits, and nuts.

Does Paraquat cause Parkinson disease?

A 2012 study from the Parkinson’s Institute revealed that individuals characterized by a particular gene variation had an eleven-fold increase in their likelihood of developing Parkinson’s disease after exposure to Paraquat.

When it comes to a connection between Paraquat use and Parkinson’s disease, “the data is overwhelming,” according to Dr. Samuel Goldman, an epidemiologist at the San Francisco Veterans Affairs health system.

How Paraquat works.

  • The extent of poisoning caused by paraquat depends on the amount, route, and duration of exposure and the person’s health condition at the time of the exposure.
  • Paraquat causes direct damage when it comes into contact with the lining of the mouth, stomach, or intestines.
  • After paraquat enters the body, it is distributed to all areas of the body. Paraquat causes toxic chemical reactions to occur throughout many parts of the body, primarily the lungs, liver, and kidneys.
  • Cells in the lung selectively accumulate paraquat likely by active transport.

What is the Lawsuit All about

The first such suit was filed in September of 2017 in Illinois by a man whose Paraquat exposure began when he was a child living on a farm and who later received a diagnosis of Parkinson’s disease.

Another Paraquat lawsuit was filed in 2018 in the same Illinois circuit court alleging that a man’s Parkinson’s diagnosis was the result of Paraquat exposure and that Syngenta’s failure to warn of the herbicide’s known risks led to his condition.

other lawsuits are making their way into the courts, and attorneys are investigating claims from those who suspect that exposure to Paraquat is responsible for their confirmed diagnosis of Parkinson’s disease or their emerging symptoms of the condition.

How to know if you are in the settlement class

You may qualify for the lawsuit claim review if you have been exposed to the herbicide Paraquat as a farmer or an agricultural laborer, or you are someone who has resided in a rural area where it was applied to crops and were subsequently diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, you may be eligible to file a lawsuit to recover financial compensation.

Conclusion

If a person survives the toxic effects of paraquat poisoning, long-term lung damage (scarring) is highly likely. Other long-term effects may also occur, including kidney failure, heart failure, and esophageal strictures (scarring of the swallowing tube that makes it hard for a person to swallow).
